To: Director Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Chenikuthi Guwahati 781 003 Madam/Sir, I am writing to request you to urge organizations in the state of Rajasthan to stop the cruel treatment of elephants in the name of religion, culture, and tourism. Some of the organizations are listed at the end of this message. The process of domestication tears baby elephants away from their families and natural habitats, and then subjects them to physical abuse and a lifetime of nutritional deprivation and lonely confinement. Elephants are wild animals that belong in the forest and live in herds with close family bonds. Indian culture prides itself on being humane and tolerant towards all beings, including animals. Claiming to respect elephants as an icon of Lord Ganesha while at the same time abusing elephants and keeping them confined only shows us as hypocrites. Please urge these organizations to consider the process of rehabilitating their elephants back to the forests.
